Yuvraj Singh Responds to the BCCI's Analysis of Team India: It's Harder to Take Than Australia's Loss
After the BCCI scrutinised Team India, Yuvraj Singh pointed out that it was a "tougher pill to swallow." Not a defeat against Australia
In the midst of the heated controversy surrounding whether
or not Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should play in Ranji Trophy matches, former
India batsman Yuvraj Singh believes that a player who is having trouble with
his form should always return to playing local cricket, regardless of his
status in the national side. Since India's defeat to Australia in the
Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there has been increasing demand for Rohit and Kohli to
compete in the Ranji Trophy in order to go back to their red-ball best. Over
the course of five Test matches, both hitters had trouble scoring runs, but
Rohit in particular was benched for the last Test in Sydney.
Cricket at home is significant. I've always believed that
you should come play domestic cricket if you have the time and aren't playing.
"That is the most effective method for obtaining game time and practice.
At the Celebrity Cricket League launch event on Thursday, Yuvraj responded to a
PTI question by saying, "If you have the time and are not injured, I think
domestic cricket is very important."
Even players like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, and even India's head coach
Gautam Gambhir have discussed the value of domestic cricket in the wake of
India's consecutive Test series defeats, including New Zealand's first-ever
home series thumping.
Before the Ranji Trophy resumes on January 23, Rohit has
participated in Mumbai's practice sessions; however, Kohli has not yet
indicated that he will make a domestic return for Delhi.
Other celebrities, including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant,
have affirmed that they will be available for their respective home team games.
How many captains of India have taken a break?
One of the best left-handers in history, Yuvraj, praised Rohit for taking a
break from the Sydney Test because of a weak run. After the Australia fiasco,
Gambhir's role has also come under scrutiny, but Yuvraj spoke up for both of
his former teammates.
I've said that before, too. You guys examine
each series separately. You praise India when they win a series and blame them
when they lose.
"I always examine the team graph over a three- or five-year span. When it
comes to Rohit, Gautam is new to the system and need more time. As captain of
India during the ODI World Cup final, Rohit Sharma has won the T20 World Cup.
He guided the Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL championships.
"He gave someone else a chance by stepping down from the previous match.
In the past, how many captains have done that? Tell me, please," he said.
He reaffirmed that defeating New Zealand 0–3 at More "questionable"
was home. Yuvraj remarked, "...that is a tougher pill to swallow,"
Although India lost the series in Australia, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and rookie
Nitish Reddy, who scored an unforgettable hundred in the Melbourne Test, both
had outstanding outings.
"It's incredible that Nitish reached a hundred in his debut tour. I don't
know how many people have done that. It is quite admirable that Jaiswal got
more than 150 in his debut Test match in Australia. We ought to discuss these
performances more," Yuvraj continued.
