With the announcement from the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian captain in IPL history to
Shreyas Iyer, an Indian top-order batsman who led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their IPL championship victory earlier this year, was chosen Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain on Sunday.

Prior to the forthcoming season, which is scheduled to start
in March, India's top-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who led the Kolkata Knight
Riders to their IPL title victory earlier this year, was chosen captain of the
Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. One of the most sought-after players in the IPL
and a seasoned leader, Iyer was signed by PBKS for an unprecedented Rs 26.75
crore, making him the second most expensive player in the November auction.
Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, with whom he had a productive time at Delhi
Capitals, where they led the team to the 2020 IPL final, will reconnect at
PBKS.
Iyer achieved an unprecedented feat in IPL history thanks to
the new job that was given to him. He is now the only Indian captain in the
history of the competition to serve as captain of the Delhi Capitals, Kolkata
Knight Riders, and PBKS.
Steve Smith (Pune Warriors India/Rising Pune Supergiant/Rajasthan Royals),
Mahela Jayawardene (DC/Kochi Tuskers Kerala/KXIP), and Kumar Sangakkara (Deccan
Chargers/Kings XI Punjab/SunRisers Hyderabad) are the international captains
who have accomplished the feat.
"I feel privileged that the team has trusted me. I am excited to
collaborate with Coach Ponting once more. With a solid mix of both established
and promising players, the squad appears to be strong. In a statement, Iyer
added, "I hope to repay the faith shown by the management to deliver our
maiden title."
